February is Heart Health Month, and Aqua Star is here to share some insights on one of the most healthful and delicious food sources around – SEAFOOD! Our bodies don’t produce omega-3 fatty acids, so the only way for us to obtain them is through the food we eat. Omega-3 fatty acids aid in lowering blood pressure, thus reducing the risk of heart attacks, abnormal heart rhythms, and strokes. Along with this, omega-3 fatty acids can decrease the risk of depression, ADHA, Alzheimer’s, dementia, diabetes, and arthritis.
Excellent Source of Vitamin D
Much of the U.S. population is deficient or low in Vitamin D. Luckily, there is a way to battle this in the form of appetizing and healthy seafoods. Fatty fish such as salmon and pollock contain high levels of fat which means that they are equally as high in Vitamin D. Staying caught up with Vitamin D levels can be especially tricky during winter months, so make sure that where you’re lacking in sun exposure, you’re making up for in delicious seafood dishes.
Fish can Improve Sleep Quality
Speaking of omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin D, these factors combined can contribute to quality of sleep and one’s overall mental state. Having high levels of Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids are proven to benefit individual’s sleep patterns and tendencies. Getting a good night’s sleep starts with a hearty and nutrition-packed meal.
Seafood Eases Joint Pain and Fatigue
The mass amounts of nutrients and fatty acids in seafood are incredibly influential in decreasing the production of inflammatory chemicals within the body. This means that the more fatty acids and nutrients you intake from your seafood, the less your joint pain and swelling will affect you. Along with this, the oils found in seafood have been proven to help control the inflammation and symptoms consistent with arthritis.
